چکیده

The feasibility of an optical image edge detection based on metal-insulator-metal (MIM) resonance transmission structures is experimentally investigated. are fabricated a glass substrate and consist thin aluminum layers separated by quartz layer. excitation Fabry-Perot modes incident wave produces line shapes in angular wavelength spectra. Resonance enhancement suppression beams using the MIM can be implemented for suppressing illuminating beam amplifying field scattered object. By structure under oblique incidence, we observe efficient phase elements at set wavelengths. obtained images edges exhibit directionality that depends direction inhomogeneity gradient object plane, as suggested spectra structures. results present work find applications information processing filtering systems.

Wave scattering by metal-dielectric multilayer structures with gain

We study wave scattering by multi-layer metal-dielectric structures of a finite extent characterized by a hyperbolic-like dispersion. We find the regimes of wave propagation when substantial compensation of losses becomes possible with the use of a gain medium with realistic parameters. We discuss the Purcell effect in these structures and its possible implications on the performance of the los...

Cavity resonances of metal-dielectric-metal nanoantennas.

We propose a new design of optical nanoantennas and numerically study their optical properties. The nanoantennas are composed of two cylindrical metal nanorods stacked vertically with a circular dielectric disk spacer. Simulation results show that when the dielectric disk is less than 5nm in thickness, such nanoantennas exhibit two types of resonances: one corresponding to antenna resonance, th...

Light-tunable Fano resonance in metal-dielectric multilayer structures

High-Q optical Fano resonances realized in a variety of plasmonic nanostructures and metamaterials are very much promising for the development of new potent photonic devices, such as optical sensors and switches. One of the key issues in the development is to establish ways to effectively modulate the Fano resonance by external perturbations. Dynamic tuning of the Fano resonance applying the me...

Plasmonic Bloch oscillations in chirped metal-dielectric structures

We study the propagation of plasmon polaritons in one-dimensional chirped metal-dielectric layered structures. We find an optical Wannier–Stark ladder in the mode spectrum and analyze Bloch oscillations associated with the coupling of surface plasmons localized at the metal-dielectric interfaces. For long structures, we find that the energy flow may dramatically change its direction, thus provi...

Effective optical constants in stratified metal-dielectric metameterial.

Effective optical constants of stratified metal-dielectric metameterial are presented. The effective constants are determined by the two-complex reflectivity method (TCRM). The TCRM reveals the full components of the effective permittivity and permeability tensors and indicates the remarkable anisotropy of metallic and dielectric components below the effective plasma frequency. On the other han...
